Start a match

  1. Pick a book on the home shelf.
  2. Choose Single player vs computer, Multiplayer same phone, or Nearby phones.
  3. Choose who bats first and the scoring-page rule. Either page is the default.
  4. Start the match. On Duo, close then partially or fully open the phone. On a traditional iPhone, tap the simulated book control to close and open.

Which page counts?

The highlighted final digit identifies the scoring page. Either page selects the left or right page randomly: 1–9 are runs and 0 is out. Left page only uses even left pages: 2, 4, 6 and 8 are runs; 0 is out. This choice applies to both innings and the computer. In nearby play, the host chooses it and the guest sees it before accepting.

Opening did not add another ball

Only the first opening after a close counts. Moving from partly open to fully open does not reroll the page. Close the book/phone before the next ball. At an innings break, continue to the chase before opening again.

Overs and targets

One over has six balls. “This over” shows the current over, then resets on the next ball. Each side has five overs and five wickets. The second side’s target is the first side’s total plus one. Equal final totals are a tie.

Nearby phones

Both players need the same app and book-library version. One phone hosts and the other finds that host, connects and accepts the match offer. Allow local-network access and keep the phones nearby with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth available. Keep both apps open during the match. If a match disconnects, use Reconnect and wait for the scorecard to sync before continuing. No account, chat or hosted match server is used.

Read the learning books

Tap “Read facts · offline books and sources” below the home shelf. Open 1,000 Cricket Facts or 100 Space Facts, search or choose a topic, and follow an entry’s reference. The facts work offline; external source links need the internet. Cricket book-scoring rules are separate from the real cricket Laws described in the anthology.

Classic books and licences

On a classic book’s shelf card or match screen, open “Full licence & original text · offline” to read its complete Project Gutenberg licence and save or share the intact original text for free.

Testing on iPad

This version is designed for iPhone. On an iPad it runs in iPhone compatibility mode, including the simulated book control and nearby play.
