Smart Strap Local
A personal iPhone companion for your WHOOP 5.0. The plan: connect directly over Bluetooth and keep your measurements on your phone.

- Connection plan
- Direct Bluetooth
A direct local connection
The planned native app connects the strap to a nearby iPhone over Bluetooth Low Energy. Available measurements would be stored and analyzed locally, without a vendor cloud API, subscription, cloud relay or required Mac.
- Pair directly with the strap using the iPhone's Bluetooth.
- Show available live readings with timestamps and freshness.
- Reconnect after range loss and retrieve missed device history where supported.
- Keep measurements and analysis on the iPhone.
Some measurements may arrive as device history rather than a live stream. Background collection depends on iOS, firmware and what the device exposes. This page describes the project; device connection requires the planned native app.
What needs to be proven
- Reliable pairing and authenticated access on WHOOP 5.0.
- Correct units and timestamps, with unsupported measurements identified.
- Repeatable synchronization without duplicate or silently missing samples.
- Reconnect and catch-up after phone locking, app interruption or range loss.
Technical approach & references
NOOP is the initial app candidate under PolyForm Noncommercial. Its WHOOP 5.0 support is experimental; authenticated history access and overnight inputs still need validation on the actual firmware. Live heart rate alone does not establish those capabilities.
GenieMax is an MIT analytics and decoder reference; its public package excludes transport and a full app UI. HRV, sleep, recovery, respiration, temperature and SpO2 remain unverified for this personal build.

Privacy and intended use
A personal, noncommercial experiment with owned hardware. No sale, public app release or hosted health-data service is planned. Local storage, protected authentication keys and a delete-data control are requirements awaiting implementation.
